Codec	What it means for you
H.264 (AVC)	The universal baseline codec. Every IPTV device on the market decodes H.264, which makes it the safest choice for older Smart TVs and MAG boxes. It uses more bandwidth than newer codecs for the same picture, so a stable 8–10 Mbps line is comfortable for Full HD H.264 streams.
H.265 (HEVC)	The modern 4K workhorse used by most CheapIPTV channels. HEVC delivers the same quality as H.264 at roughly half the bitrate, so 4K UHD streams stay smooth on about 25 Mbps. Fire TV Stick 4K, Apple TV 4K, Android boxes and recent Samsung and LG TVs all decode HEVC in hardware.

AV1 compresses even better than HEVC, cutting bandwidth further for the same 4K picture, which helps on busy home networks.
